Coronation Celebrations at Somersham

We have had a fantastic week of Coronation celebrations this week in school. The week began with a Coronation assembly which helped the children to understand the history and purpose of the Coronation ceremony. The children have then been taking part in activities within their own classes including some fabulous art work of King Charles III, writing diary entries, making cucumber sandwiches (after visiting the local shop to buy ingredients) and designing crowns. During Thursday and Friday breaktimes, the school Council led some ACE Coronation activities  (planned by themselves). The children thoroughly enjoyed these especially the Royal Football target game, pin the jewel on the crown game and Coronation bingo!

Today, children and staff came to school wearing red, white and blue and some very big smiles! At lunchtime the children enjoyed a traditionally British lunch of 'Fish and chips' with some Coronation cake for dessert. The hall was decorated in red, white and blue and we enjoyed listening to some of King Charles III's favourite classical music while we tucked in!

Our day of celebrations finished with parents being welcomed in to school to view the children's Coronation creations. FOSS then held a Krispy Kreme doughnut sale which went down a treat! We certainly have had a fun week and we are all now very excited for the weekend.

Long Live The King!
