  • PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

Fri 27 May 2022 Mrs Oldfield

What a fantastic day!  It was lovely to see so many parents and families enjoying the perfect weather for our celebration picnic.  The children looked amazing in their red, white and blue and the bunting they had designed looked beautiful decorating the school fence. The activities this afternoon included a coconut shy, croquet and tin pan alley and another rousing rendition of the National Anthem. All in all a brilliant way to end the half term.

  • PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

Mon 23 May 2022 Mrs Oldfield

Fingers crossed for fine weather on Friday when we will be celebrating the Platinum Jubilee outside on the school field.  The children will have a picnic lunch followed by an afternoon of games and activities.  Parents and families are invited to join us for the picnic - please bring your own food and blankets/chairs.  You will be able to access the field from 12 noon.  Can we ask that parents and families vacate the school by 1.30pm please. Don't forget to wear red, white and blue!

  • WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK

Fri 13 May 2022 Mrs Oldfield

The children will be bringing home a 'Walking Challenge Activity Book' today.  They are being encouraged to walk to school next week, engage in the challenges and earn stickers for themselves and their class.

  • VIP visitor!

Fri 13 May 2022 Mrs Oldfield

There was a VIP in Somersham today.  Our local MP Dan Poulter, accompanied by his press secretary, paid the school a visit.  He was interested to see the changes since his last visit 5 years ago, most notably the updated EYFS/KS1 block and the forest school area. Mr Poulter visited each class and commented on how happy and relaxed the children were and how they were obviously enjoying the activities on offer.

  • TODAY IN ADDERS

Fri 06 May 2022 Miss Pearson

Today Adders were sorting animals using sorting diagrams chalked on the playground. They had to ask questions such as, 'Is it a vertebrae?' and 'Is it semi-aquatic?' They will be using sorting diagrams again in other projects, for example, to sort plants and shapes.

During the Gardening Club the children planted tomatoes and lettuce donated by Mrs Oldfield using compost kindly donated by a parent. Thank you. Seeds, plants and compost donations will be gratefully received by the club, which is being run by Adders class and there will be opportunities for other children to get involved.

  • SHARING ASSEMBLY AND GREEN DAY

Fri 06 May 2022 Mrs Oldfield

What a lovely sharing assembly this morning.  It was so good to be able to invite parents back into school and to showcase Foxes and Otters amazing work on their 'Time Travellers' topic.  They did a brilliant job!  We are enjoying our Green Day for Deaf Awareness Week and have collected £107  in donations for the Ipswich Deaf Children's Society.

  • DINOSAURS IN SOMERSHAM?

Fri 06 May 2022 Miss Crush

Can you believe it?!? Dinosaur bones have been discovered by Otters and Foxes in the KS1 digging area! This incredible discovery has led to lots of research, thoughtful questions, grouping and much more. The children have been developing their skills and use of language in history and geography and continue to build on their prior learning as they plot our findings on the class timeline. We can't wait to find out where our Time Traveller topic takes us next!

  • EASTER FOREST SCHOOL CLUB

Fri 06 May 2022 Miss Crush

We had the best two days at Somersham Forest School club this easter. Making mallets, hedgehogs and our own damper bread! The children were wonderful and we were treated to some beautiful weather. It was lovely to be able to see the children work together, enjoy exploring and create a range of wonderful tools and objects that they felt very proud of. We are hoping to be able to offer something similar in the Summer holidays. A VERY big thank you for the support of Mrs Durrant, Mrs Aveling and Mrs Pawsey. Without the staff volunteering it would not have been possible. Thank you.
