  • Extreme Earth Day 2023

Fri 31 Mar 2023 Mrs Chinnery

On Wednesday, Hedgehogs class took part in an Extreme Earth Day which proved to be a fantastic finale to their 'Violent Earth' topic. All of the children came dressed in colours or costumes that related to natural disaters e.g. red and yellow for a volcano, brown/green for an earth quake, grey for a tornado etc. The children took part is lots of exciting activties including making flood defences for little villages (that could withstand high waters), developing tornados in bottles and creating wildfire art. The smiles on their faces throughout the day was a delight to see! In the afternoon, parents and carers were invited into school to join in with activities and by all accounts, great fun was had by all!

  • Visits from Kimmy's Zoo and A Zookeeper

Fri 24 Mar 2023 Mrs Chinnery

On Wednesday we had a visit from Kimmy’s zoo. All the children really enjoyed meeting the different animals, from a tiny praying mantis to a cute fluffy chinchilla! The children learnt lots of facts about the animals including where their natural habitats are and how different animals and insects survive e.g in the rainforest or the Savannah. A day of fantastic memories for all.

On Thursday, Reception and Key Stage One had a very special visit from an actual zookeeper whose main role was to care for the elephants.  The children asked lots of fantastic questions and learnt some amazing facts. Did you know that elephants know when a storm is brewing as they can feel the vibrations through their feet!

  • Colchester Castle Royal Visit

Fri 10 Mar 2023 Mrs Chinnery

On Tuesday March 7th Adders class (Year 5 and 6) went on a school outing to Colchester Castle. This is always a fantastic trip as the children get to explore the castle and experience a 'story tour' of the vaults; a brilliant tour re-telling what happened during Boudicca's revolt.

This year, prior to our visit, we received some very important and exciting news. We were told that a VIP would also be in Colchester on the day and would be arriving at the castle at the same time as us! The children and staff at school spent some time in anticipation, trying to guess who the visitor might be. We eventually heard from the Mayor of Colchester who the VIPs were.

His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Consort!

Thankfully, with some time to prepare, Adders class (plus their teacher and teaching assistants) were able to brush up on their royal etiquette, including how to curtsy, nod and pronounce ma’am (mam as in jam).

The children had the most amazing day and the highlight was definitely meeting both His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Consort. Both spoke to the children for some time and the children smiled and chatted back confidently and politely. We are all very proud of the Adders class who represented the school so well.

  • World Book day 2023

Fri 03 Mar 2023 Mrs Chinnery

Today we celebrated World Book Day in school. The children enjoyed a carousel of engaging activities including a book scavenger hunt on the school field, a front cover design activity, paired reading and a 'Design your own 'Reading Race Track' game'.

The children all came dressed up as their favourite book characters. We had some very creative costumes this year and a particularly ACE array of homemade outfits!

Great fun was had by all!
