Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Somersham Primary we are committed to offering a broad, balanced curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all our pupils.

Our Federation is committed to a policy of inclusion: one in which the teaching, learning, achievements, attitudes and well-being of all children matter, including those identified as having special educational needs or disabilities.

This is fully underpinned by our vision and values of aspiration and combined excellence for everyone, along with our three curriculum drivers of 'health and happiness, our world and diversity.'

Miss Wilkins is our Federation Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCO)

If you would like to contact her with any concerns, then you can either email her at sendco@somershamprimary.net or contact the school office (01473 831251) and they will forward your phone call message to her.

At Somersham Primary School we are currently trialling the implementation of a Framework called the 7C’s Learning Portfolio.

The 7 C's Learning Portfolio is a language of SEND assessment.  As the name suggests, it consists of 7 learning themes all beginning with the letter C.  Within each theme are a further 7 learning attributes, so there are a total of 49 learning attributes within the 7 C's Learning Portfolio.  These 49 attributes can help teachers, SENCOs, TAs, learners and their families to identify learner strengths and areas for development.  In real terms, this language can help to define the 'SEN Support' which is 'additional to or different from' the adapted curriculum.

The 7 C's Learning Portfolio has been adopted by many settings as a language of SEND assessment.  As it is a language, it has been assimilated into our existing SEND Support Plans. If you child is on our SEN Register, or if SEND is a concern, they will have had a 7C’s assessment and a 7C’s Profile will be created which feeds directly into their Support Plan.

We have also updated our Graduated Response which details and documents how we support students with progress concerns and those with SEND.

You find this document below:

We are currently updating our Provision Maps which detail how we support our SEND students and those with progress concerns. These will now be split individually into the four SEND categories of need. Provision Maps will be available on the website in the coming weeks.
