Hedgehogs class had an exciting Thursday this week with a trip to West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village! We had a fantastic day exploring the on-site museum, handling special artefacts, investigating Anglo-Saxon houses and hearing from an expert all about Anglo-Saxon daily life. The children asked some brilliant questions having had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a period of history which they have been exploring this term.
After a whole School assembly on the meaning of Lent and the significance of Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday for Christians, we celebrated Shrove Tuesday by having some pancake races in the school playground. This was thoroughly enoyed by all and it was great to hear all of the children supporting each other during the races.
Today's session saw a number of Adders working towards their woodcraft badge. Creating a stool/table from a log is not a simple task and I was very impressed with the dedication shown when trying to complete it. The children had the opportunity to use a bow saw, a knife, a drill and a mallet. They were able to split logs with a froe and problem solve how to divide the remaining wood into legs. We also had plenty of other problem solving opportunities that included setting up a pulley system. Team work, active listening and the sharing of ideas were all key and these were demonstrated in a really ACE way. I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to work with Adders again in Forest School and look forward to seeing them achieve their goals.
Hedgehogs had an exciting morning on Friday, taking part in a live online STEM challenge- making gliders. We became aircraft engineers in order to design, build and test our gliders. We made different prototypes and tested their time and distance. We even found out their speed using some of our maths skills!
