Somersham
Primary School
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
On Friday, Adders class visited the Imperial War Museum at Duxford as part of their topic on WW2. They had a fantasic day and even got to see Spitfires take to the skies from the airfield where they first flew. They got up close to gigantic aircraft and walked in the footsteps of the men and women who served here. Miss Pearson said that all of the Adders behaviour was ACE and they represented the school brilliantly. Well done Adders!
On Thursday 14th March, Foxes and Otters classes visited Ipswich East Fire Station at Ransomes Europark. They listened to a talk about fire safety, looked at the fire trucks and learnt about the equipment and uniforms. They even got to use one of the hoses which was definitely a favourite part for many. The children asked lots of ACE questions and their behaviour throughout the trip was superb. All in all , a fantastic day of fun and learning linked to their topic on 'The Great Fire of London'.
What a fantastic World Book Day we have all had at Somersham today!
The children and staff celebarted the day by dressing up as book characters and we really have had some wonderfully creative costumes. We have even had a whole costume including armour and a helmet made from 3D printing!
During the morning, the children moved around the school in their House teams, visiting all the classes and enjoying different book related activities. These ranged from a Book bistro where various books could be ordered from a menu with restaurant style service, an outdoor book Scavenger hunt, an exploring poetry session where several children chose to perform to the class and a book cover design session.
In the afternoon, more activites took place in classes and at 2.30pm both Adders and Hedgehogs took part in a Live World Book Day Lesson. A great day had by all!
This week Megs met children in Reception, Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5. The children were so well behaved and considerate around Megs and again all the children's smiles were lovely to see. Wendy was very impressed with all the ACE questions and the way the older children supported our younger children so well.
On Tuesday we had our first visit from Megs our Pets As Therapy (PAT) dog. Children in Years 2, 4 and 6 got to meet Megs and spend time with her and her owner Wendy.. All of the children enjoyed the opportunity to stroke her and many discovered that she really loves a tickle under her chin. All of the children behaved very respectfully around Megs and asked Wendy some really thoughtful questions. Next week, Reception and Years 1,3 and 5 will get to meet Megs.
