Primary School
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We have been learning about how Anglo Saxon people lived. We used our analysing skills when looking at images and spotting clues about their daily lives. We then looked at some artefacts and discussed the types of jobs that people may have had to do around their settlements using the artefacts to help us explain. Finally, we tried our hand at building an Anglo Saxon house using a wattle technique. We also had a go at making some pots out of our Suffolk clay soil!
Hedgehogs have been learning various Dance skills this term within our Real PE curriculum. This week was partner circles and lifts. We created some beautiful paired routines.
Since beginning their topic 'Once upon a time', Foxes and Otters have been recieving postcards from 'Crumbs' the Gingerbread man. They are pleased to have a new postcard from Crumbs! This time the post man had to deliver it to one of our class members as the school was closed. The children used the clues to work out where Crumbs is now on his adventures. He’s been very busy travelling from London to Cardiff to Edinburgh. The children have been tracking his journey and are excited to see where he goes next.
Year 2 have been investigating micro habitats in Science. They carefully collected woodlice to explore what conditions they prefer to live in.
As part of their topic on Space, Adders class have been researching space rocket designs. Based on their research, in Design and Technology, they have then designed their own rockets. They have looked at order and processes used and have explored stengthening materials e.g. glue vaneer. They have been thinking about how to join materials e.g. using velcro, to enhance their designs. The children have been demonstrating many of their ACE particles during this process, particularly Try and Try again..Perseverence, Everyone working together and Live, Learn , Laugh. Well done Adders!
Each year, the children in school take part in a competition to design a festive front cover for the Dec/Jan Link Newsletter (for the villages of Somersham, Willisham, Flowton and Offton). This year the picture winner was Jude. Well done Jude! All of the entries are currently on display at the Comunity shop throughout December.
On Thursday, as part of their topic on Ancient Egypt, Hedgehogs class had their very own Egyptian Day. They came to school in amazing costumes and spent the day coming up with theories about how the pyramids were built (after anaylising some historical pictures). They then were challenged to build pyramids with spaghetti for which the children needed all of their ACE particles, particularly perseverance. The Hedgehogs class had already learned about the mummification process through guided reading so they then mummified oranges using salt and sodium bicarbonate to turn their skins nice and leathery just like a mummy! In the afternoon, they created death masks using Tutunkahmen as their inspiration. What a wonderful day of ACE learning and fun!
Today we dressed up in spotty and bright clothes in support of Children in Need Be SPOTacular day.
Once again, our amazing School Council organised a range of Pudsey/spotty themed games and activities for breaktime. These were very much enjoyed by all the children. Our very kind cook also baked us all a Pudsey shortbread cookie as well as some sponge iced with hundreds and thousands. Thank you to all those who sent in donations for the day, we raised an incredible £156.60!
This week Foxes and Otters class have been learning about the Hindu Festival of Lights 'Diwali'. They have been re-enacting the story of Rama and Sita and have made beautiful little Diva lamps from clay.
Well done to all the pumpkin carvers who joined in with our competition on Tuesday. We had 50 pumpkins entered and there were lots of really fantastic designs!
A big congratulations to Rocco, Lydia, Bella and Elliot who were the class winners.
