  • Local Author Helen Thorne Visits the school!

Fri 13 Oct 2023 Mrs Chinnery

This week, we had a special visitor at school - Helen Thorne, a local bee keeper and author of the children’s book ‘Moki and the Bees’. Helen led an amazing assembly for the children, sharing her book and giving a very engaging talk on the different types of bees, beekeeping and pollination. The children loved seeing the beekeeping equipment but the highlight was definitely being able to try on some bee vision glasses!  The children were then able to buy signed copies of the book which was all very exciting!

  • Active Week 2023- Return to School Curriculum

Fri 15 Sep 2023 Miss Crush

Well done Somesham for a wonderfully ACE Active week filled with smiles and laughter. Our return to school curriculum saw the children taking part in archery, inflatable football, lunch club and active challenges as well as stepping more steps than you can shake a stick at! Well done to Year 4 for being the most active year group this time!

It was fantastic to see everyone embracing our active Stormbreak sessions and enjoying outdoor learning across the school. This week allowed us all to reflect on our different emotions, the benefits of resilience and self care, and the importance of hope and optimism. We will continue to build on these themes throughout our school year and look forward to remaining an active school.

  • Farewell to Our Amazing Year 6

Fri 21 Jul 2023 Mrs Chinnery

Today we said farewell to our amazing Year 6s. They have been a truly wonderful year group who have upheld our ACE particles brilliantly. During their Leaver's assembly, each of them shared memories of their time at Somersham Primary School and it's amazing to see just how much they've grown, not just in size but in confidence too! We all wish them the very best as they take the next step in their school journey. We know they will be ACE!

They have made some amazing costumes and props demonstrating lots of their ACE particles in the process. The Dress Rehearsal performance was on Monday and was very much enjoyed by all of the children and staff. The children really got into role and their singing was amazing! On Tuesday it was parents and carers turn to watch and by all accounts it was very well recieved! Bravo Adders!

  • Hedgehogs Visit to Needham Market

Fri 14 Jul 2023 Mrs Chinnery

On Wednesday Hedgehogs class went to Needham Lake on a Geography field trip where they identified the flora and fauna of the lake. After this they created a map of the lake plotting all the key features in and around it which included coming up with symbols for each feature to be used in a key.

Having stopped for a lovely picnic lunch and play, the children then investigated the high street of Needham Market.  They identified the services and architecture of the high street and sketched any unusual buildings they spotted as they walked along.

  • Hedgehogs Samosas!

Fri 14 Jul 2023 Mrs Chinnery

This week the Hedgehogs started a DT project which began by exploring the origins of the Samosa and then following a recipe to cook a vegan Samosa and chutney. They then evaluated their Samosas and dips considering how they tasted, what changes they would make to the recipe next time and the skills needed to create their own. On Monday they are designing and creating their own ones! I'm sure they will be very tasty!

  • Foxes and Otters Trip to Felixstowe

Fri 14 Jul 2023 Mrs Chinnery

On Thursday, Foxes and Otters travelled to Felixstowe where they spent a wonderful day at the beach taking part in a range of activities including building sandcastles, shell collecting, digging moats/lakes and identifying living things in their natural habitats e.g. limpets. They even enjoyed a lovely ice-cream and it was very pleasing that members of the public commented on the ACE behaviour and manners of the children. Well done Foxes and Otters!

What a fantastic way to bring to life and celebrate the end of their topic 'Splash'.
