Sports day 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♂️
On Friday 30th June we had our Sports Day and it really was ACE! The children loved their parade at the start with their house teams and 'The Eye of the Tiger' music playing. All of the children engaged brilliantly in the different races and activities, showing wonderful sportsmanship and supporting one another.
Thank you Miss Crush for organising a fantastic day for all teachers, children and parents!
In English, Otters class acted out scenes from The Storm Whale, thinking about the characters thoughts, feelings and imagining what they might say to each other. The children went on to write diaries in first person.
Our Eco-council have been very activie this term, creating an action plan for 2023/2024, a new logo and planting their brand new raised flower bed. They have planted a variety of different vegetables and are currently running a growing competition. They have big plans for next term so watch this space!
Hedgehogs class are thoroughly enjoying their 'Invent' topic this term. They are currently busy working on their ''Invent Showcase' which is being shown to the school on Tuesday and to their parents/carers on Thursday. As part of their topic, they have been building sets for their own animations. We can't wait to see the finished creations!
Yesterday afternoon we had a wonderful visit from a swarm of bees to the school field. This resulted in a local beekeeper visiting the school to kindly remove the bees. Some of the staff were very privileged to watch as Mrs Burgess helped to remove the bees from the bush into a portable beehive. Together they carefully removed the swarm, using a smoker to take away the pheromone smell of the Queen from the bush. It was fascinating to watch as the bees found their way to their new portable hive, using their sense of smell! The event was filmed and will be shared during a school assembly later in the term!
Adders class followed complex instructions to build a motorised vehicle. They needed lots of problem solving skills, perseverance and clear communication to make their vehicles run smoothly. The children used creativity to design the body of the vehicle.
Adders class went on a walk around the local area with home made sketch books to practise sketching using nature as their inspiration.
As part of their topic on Benin, Adders class prepared for a Benin festival. Each district prepared their contribution. Great fun was had by all!
Foxes have been planting and caring for different plants and vegetables in this topic which has led to lots of discussion about how we care for our environment. They loved the opportunity to litter pick on the field and spent time considering other ways they could care for the world we live in. Teamwork has been a big part of our learning this term as we listen to others and support them keeping safe using tools and exploring the local area. We have helped to label different parts of plants to help Forgetful Brian who is very grateful for all of the learning we have shared with him. We can't wait to see how our plants continue to grow over the half term break.
We have had a fantastic week of Coronation celebrations this week in school. The week began with a Coronation assembly which helped the children to understand the history and purpose of the Coronation ceremony. The children have then been taking part in activities within their own classes including some fabulous art work of King Charles III, writing diary entries, making cucumber sandwiches (after visiting the local shop to buy ingredients) and designing crowns. During Thursday and Friday breaktimes, the school Council led some ACE Coronation activities (planned by themselves). The children thoroughly enjoyed these especially the Royal Football target game, pin the jewel on the crown game and Coronation bingo!
Today, children and staff came to school wearing red, white and blue and some very big smiles! At lunchtime the children enjoyed a traditionally British lunch of 'Fish and chips' with some Coronation cake for dessert. The hall was decorated in red, white and blue and we enjoyed listening to some of King Charles III's favourite classical music while we tucked in!
Our day of celebrations finished with parents being welcomed in to school to view the children's Coronation creations. FOSS then held a Krispy Kreme doughnut sale which went down a treat! We certainly have had a fun week and we are all now very excited for the weekend.
Long Live The King!
